Combined exam. for NEET , JEE & CUET

One exam. for NEET , JEE and CUET

Why One Exam for JEE, NEET and CUET ?

Almost 45 lakhs students appear in NEET – UG ( National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), JEE ( Joint Entrance Examination) and recently introduced CUET ( Common University Entrance Test). If any of the students is not successful in NEET or JEE exam, he/she has to appear in CUET exam to take admission in different universities.

Here, one big problem for the students occurs. They have to appear in CUET exam with same subjects with which they have  appeared in NEET or JEE exam if they want admission in any university for Physics,Chemistry and Biology/Maths subject.  It means if for NEET they have appeared in the exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology then again they have to appear in CUET exam with same subjects.

Due to this they not only study the subjects again and again but also they have to travel a lot to go on different centers and again they have to fill the forms and pay the fee again and again for the exam of same pattern.

To cope with this problem UGC has a solution so that students need not appear in different exams with same subjects so that their energy and money could be saved.

Benefit of merging the exams.

Now UGC is working on a concept to merge JEE, NEET and CUET examinations. UGC is planning to make a committee to find the possibility to merge these exams. If this happened, then students will use a common score to get admission in Medical/Engineering and different universities. So, one entrance exam will be there in place of NEET,JEE and CUET and students will not have to prove themselves again and again in different examinations for proving proficiency in same subjects.

Marks of this combined examination can be used to take admission in Medical / Engineering and different universities. So, students will face only one entrance exam with multiple opportunities to apply at different places. Students, who appeared in combined  entrance exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology can apply for all the medical streams as well as in different universities. They can get admission in different universities having same subjects and can get admission in medical streams also.Same will be for Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics for Engineering stream also.

If one entrance exam replaces NEET, JEE and CUET separate entrance exams, the burden of NTA to conduct different entrance exams will be reduced. After this NTA will be able to handle the pressure of taking exams of huge number of students and giving result of different entrance exams multiple times. This will reduce the pressure on student also. They can handle the pressure of different exam dates, different center .

       Format of combined examination-

Combined entrance exam is proposed to be in online mode and twice a year. Most probably the exam will be in May and December every year. Students can appear in one or both the exams of the year. Previously one confusion was there , if students could not be selected in NEET or JEE , they have another chance to be successful in CUET as separate exam is there for both. But if only one entrance exam will be there, then they have to perform in only one exam . They will not have another chance. But if the combined entrance exam will be conducted twice a year, then student will get 2 chances .Better performance will be considered for NEET / JEE and CUET.

So, if NEET and JEE it clubbed with CUET-UG, then students will have the option to go in Engineering / Medical field based on the performance in combined entrance exam . They will also have the option to choose any undergraduate course in Universities with the subject option of Physics, Chemistry and Maths/Biology. UGC chairman Prof. Jagdesh Kumar told that 170 Universities will be under CUET next year. So students will have the opportunity to take admission in Engineering / Medical as well as in 170 universities by appearing in only one combined entrance examination if this proposal of combined entrance examination is formulated. For this proposal advice of different educational institutions can be taken. JEE Advanced will be out of this combined entrance examination as JEE Advance level is different from any other entrance examination, specially CUET-UG. So only  JEE  Main , NEET can be clubbed with CUET-UG entrance examination.

When NEET, JEE and CUET will be merged –

Within a month or two an advisory committee  will be formed which will see the exam patterns of different entrance examination in different states. After that, the advisory committee will submit the report and action will be taken based on the report. Action will be taken on war level so that plan of merging different entrance exam can be formulated as soon as possible. Most probably all the entrance exam will be merged in a year or two.

Problems which will occur when NEET, JEE and CUET is merged-

Main problem which will occur is conducting one exam for such a huge number of students will be a big task. To conduct exam for such a huge number, exam will have to be taken in different phases. So for different phases, different question sets have to be prepared and for every phase different exam setup to conduct the exam will be a tough task.

Another problem will be that ,not all the students of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology subject is preparing for Medical or Engineering entrance examination. Those who prepare for NEET / JEE entrance exam will score more in combined entrance exam, so  they can take admission is Medical / Engineering colleges. If they don’t get admission in Medical / Engineering colleges, still they will have more marks in combined entrance examination . Those students who are not interested in Medical / Engineering career and want to pursue their career in science streams will be left behind. So they will not be able to take admission in top most universities as those universities will be filled by those students who have prepared for Medical / Engineering but could not get it. So UGC has to see this problem very seriously.

Bottom line is that some problems will be there after merging NEET, JEE and CUET exams . UGC should see all the upcoming problems due to merger of entrance exams and should try to remove all  well before the time.
